Spanish Food - Gemma B

Spanish food today has been  influenced by the Greek, Roman, Phoenician and Moorish settlements as well as more modern influences. Many original Spanish dishes are based about sea food. Pork is popular in Spain as it was a statement of Christian ethnicity because it was forbidden to Jews and Muslims. Most recipes always included pork loin chops in garlic and red peppers, as well as brandy. They wanted to show the cleanliness of blood.

Breakfast
Spanish breakfasts are usually a croissant, roll,omelettes or tortilla with cofee



Spanish lunch/dinner
Lunch and dinner are mainly tapas. Spanish Tapas menus are usually simple dishes made of cheese, fish, eggs, dips, vegetable dishes, canapés and savory pastries.



Desert
Desserts are usually made of eggs, almonds, flour and milk. Desserts like tarts and cakes are usually for special occasions.

An important Spanish food is Jamon Serrano which is a special ham which isn't smoked. Another important food is paella whichis usually seen as the national dish. They also like to have bread and salad with main meals.
